The Bobby Lees – OUTLAW
First: Put the phone down and play it loud. Sam Quartin is convinced the screen is out to get her, and “OUTLAW” is the counterattack. Over Kendall Wind’s cavernous bass, Macky Bowman’s heavy-footed drums, and a layer of glitched beats, she raps about growing up on a steady drip of poison from the feed. Porn shows up far too early and leaves real intimacy stuck on replay. A whole generation trained like lab animals to sit still and wait for the next prompt. Then she flips it: sneaking in through the very screen that hooked everyone, ready to start the uprising, while the chorus piles up into a chant of gunshots and a victory lap on the roof of a police car. Dave Sardy produced again, pulling in the rap-heavy bite of Quartin’s other project Lady Boy, last heard alongside the band on Hey Na (W37). Out now on Epitaph, following June’s New Self.
