The Bobby Lees & Lady Boy – Hey Na

“Hey Na” came together in about 24 hours, sparked by a 12-step meeting held during a full moon. It’s a crossover single, The Bobby Lees teaming up with frontwoman Sam Quartin’s other project, the hip-hop leaning Lady Boy, produced again by Dave Sardy, who’s worked with the band across multiple records. It follows Napoleon (W41), their Epitaph debut single, and the band’s Epitaph debut album “New Self”, out since June 12 with Kendall Wind’s bass and Macky Bowman’s drums driving most of it, plus a rowdy cover of PJ Harvey’s “50ft Queenie” tucked into the tracklist. The video for “Hey Na” is directed by John Swab.

Quartin wrote it out of frustration, tired of grinding for years without much to show for it and wondering whether she could just will something better into existence through the songs themselves. What came out is a beat-driven, hip-hop cadenced track that keeps the band’s usual bite while pushing further into confidence and outright liberation. There’s no hedging in these verses, just someone stating flatly what she’s owed and refusing to take less.
