Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul – From Healer to Dealer
If any song on the new album sounds like the duo who made “Topical Dancer”, it’s this one. “From Healer to Dealer” brings back the satire, the deadpan delivery and the groove, and stretches all three past eight minutes.
The first half is Charlotte Adigéry hooked on self-help books and wellness trends, reaching for each new fix and sliding back into old habits while Bolis Pupul’s arrangement seems to snicker behind her: house beats, quick, funky bass lines and melodies that won’t sit still. Then it turns into a phone call between Grace and Ruben, two wellness obsessives who trade buzzwords, congratulate each other on how much they’ve grown, and end up arguing over which of them is more toxic.
The Belgian pair produced it with Stephen and David Dewaele, back again as mentors and co-producers. Pupul calls Soulwax “the musical chiropractors”, which fits how lean the track feels for its length. It’s the second single from “Mainland Madinina”, after “Googoo Gaga”, a more personal record about family, lineage and colonial history, written in Ghent and Martinique. It’s out February 5, 2027 on DEEWEE and Because Music, followed by a tour across Europe and North America.
