PISS – blocking a scene you can’t remember

PISS build “blocking a scene you can’t remember” like a rehearsal on a film set: Tay Zantingh reads stage directions for a girl’s bedroom at night, breaks off, apologises, starts again, and every restart pushes a little further into what happened. The girl has finally dialled the number of the man who abused her and is running through what she’ll say. It comes out as body horror, a self that wakes up rearranged and stitched together wrong, still carrying all of it, while he walks through his days untroubled. She asks whether his wife knows, whether she’ll turn up in the stories he tells his kids, and near the end the fury tips into something harder to sit with: the recognition that he only handed on what he’d been given. Then the scene resets to its first line. Underneath, slow-core guitars climb from near silence to a heavy surge.

Zantingh co-directed the video with Nushi Sharma. Next to the furious “time loop at hot slit”, it’s slower and quieter on the surface and far heavier underneath. It’s the second preview of their debut album, you made me / skin on linen, out October 30 on Sub Pop, with Paper Bag Records in Canada.
