Kelly Lee Owens – ASCEND
Welsh electronic producer Kelly Lee Owens shares “ASCEND”, the lead single from her EP KELLY, out November 21st on dh2. It’s her first new music since last year’s album Dreamstate.
Owens describes the EP as embodying the collective physical experiences you get in clubs and at music events. She’s been drawn to sounds that sit on the edge, uncomfortable and uneasy, reflecting her emotional state. The track builds tension with deep bass and echoing vocals before hitting a trance-like climax. There’s a push and pull between rising above chaos and willingly sinking into it.
The EP continues her work championing independent club spaces and underground scenes. Her Girls Love Techno t-shirts have become a rallying point for women in electronic music, and she continues working with Music Venue Trust to support the venues and communities that sustain nightlife. She’s highlighted how small venues shaped acts like Depeche Mode, stressing that everyone from booking agents to ticketing companies needs to invest back into these spaces.
KELLY is released on dh2, the Dirty Hit electronic imprint spearheaded by George Daniel. Owens says this isn’t about chasing the next wave but building something deeper: a sound, a scene, a shared vision for where dance music can go.
