john glacier – Lights

Nothing John Glacier has released “Lights”. Kwes Darko’s production hangs winding synth lines and big ringing bells over skittering, trap-leaning drums, glossy enough for daytime radio but still odd around the edges. Glacier uses it to look straight at what the past year has brought her: cameras everywhere, being permanently on call, a life watched from every angle. She talks through all of it in the same level, unbothered voice she’d use for a trip to the shops, so the surreal parts land as ordinary and the ordinary parts start to feel surreal. Follows Bond Girl (W30), out now on Young.
