Liily – FOREVER / EVERYDAY
Fans crammed into a room where nothing is the size it should be: guitarist Sam De La Torre built an Ames room himself for Liily’s double video, and the perspective trick makes the band shrink and swell as they move through it. A fitting frame for two songs about measuring yourself against everyone else. “FOREVER” starts on a nervy beat, groaning bass and glitchy electronics, then floods with distorted guitar while Dylan Nash tries to stay humble in a business built on comparison, with the band still working out what they want to sound like. “EVERYDAY” Sets a sour bass line against bursts of feedback before breaking open into a giant release of a chorus, Nash taking stock of where he’s been falling short as a son, a bandmate, and a partner. He decides to do better. First music since signing to Atlantic, both headed for their major-label debut album later this year.
