Maruja – Break The Tension

Maruja’s new single “Break The Tension” is a powerful statement from the Manchester-based quartet. The track, born from improvisation sessions, captures a sense of societal powerlessness through its foreboding tone and relentless instrumentation. The band describes it as a journey “down a wormhole to hell and back”, exploring vengeance, anxiety, and isolation. This release comes amid Maruja’s extensive 40-date tour across the UK and Europe, with over 4000 tickets sold and multiple sold-out venues.

Their unique blend of cosmic jazz, punk, and harsh noise has earned them recognition, including praise from BBC 6Music and a memorable set at Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing stage. They are one of my best 2024 bands!
