Madra Salach – Ribbon Factory

Anyone who has caught Madra Salach live this past year already knows “Ribbon Factory”, and the studio take keeps the force those sets gave it. Guitar runs like a conveyor belt under a constant, pulsing rhythm and mandolin wind tighter around Paul Banks’ voice, and the whole thing continues to climb until the weight becomes crushing. Banks calls it a step toward livelier, punkier arrangements and a uniquely Irish song full of anger and despair. It plays like a story of work lost and a household straining under that loss, wheels and hearts both spinning, the walls closing in. Old as a factory ballad, current as any news about jobs disappearing.

It’s their first new music since January’s debut EP, It’s a Hell of an Age, out now on Island Records.
