Party Dozen – Full Powers
“Full Powers” opens strutting and pleased with itself, a swirling, melodic verse with Kirsty Tickle’s sax riding high and Jonathan Boulet’s drums keeping the swing loose. Then the ground shifts. The band describe two kinds of full powers, the personal kind where everything’s going your way and the ugly kind where one side has it all and still wants more. The song switches between them until the confidence turns uneasy. By the pounding ending Tickle is squealing and squalling all over it.
It’s the last single before “21 Bum Salute”, out November 6 on City Slang, recorded, mixed and mastered by the two of them. Special Unit (W21) felt like something about to tip over.
