Dead Gowns – Vegas Dream
A dispute at the heart of “Vegas Dream” begins with small things: a rental car mishap, fine print no one looked over before signing, money that belonged to her but someone else seemed to be treating her like a child regarding it. This is how Geneviève Beaudoin introduces the lead single “Vegas”, off her sophomore full length record titled Vegas, due to release Oct. 23 via Mtn Laurel Recording Co. In late September we reviewed the first single from the upcoming album titled Everything You Wanted (W39 2025). At the time of our review of Everything You Wanted, it was being released independently as a single tied to the limited edition vinyl re-release of her first album.
As it turns out, it has always been part of a larger project. The entire Vegas record was produced by Colin Fleming and Sam Kassirer. The same band members appear on “Vegas Dream”. The addition of synth player/pianist Sam Kassirer adds depth to the recording. The two guitarists (Beaudoin and Kalloch) push their parts to the forefront.
This is a breakup song, specifically concerning a friendship rather than romantic relationship. Unlike many other songs about breakups, there is little attempt to minimize or dress down the pain. That is all part of what makes this song appealing.
