yoo doo right – Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil

Starting as an exercise, “Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil” is built around a rhythmic clash where a five-count guitar plays against a four-count drum pattern. Using that friction to build the entire song into a six-minute rhythmically-challenging single with a repetitive but hypnotic (mantra-like) riff and motorik beat running counterpoint, Yoo Doo Right’s “Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light” will be released on Mothland November 6. The duo from Montreal also provided the above description of their new single.

The song has been toured. Touring Bassist Timothy Aaron Bryan, who traveled with Cober and Talbot also performed on the track. The recording of the song took place at Hotel2Tango and Error 403 in Montreal. Near the end of the song, there is a line of faith that responds to a question that almost no one can recall hearing asked within the song. The refrain of “the worrier” continues to loop through every pass, which eventually makes it stop feeling like a confession and start to feel like an identity. Each pass cuts off before the sentence is complete. The opening lines create labor out of comfort. Something gets warmed up intentionally instead of finding itself already warm. The later part of the song creates a small rite of passage as a result of all the near misses and quiet follow-throughs of a life framed as much as an opportunity to mark. Both with mercy and hope presented as efforts ather than as things that happen naturally.
