Wings of Desire – Interlude
Six new moons in, Chloe Little and James Taylor drop “Interlude”, and it does exactly what the title says: it pauses the arc. We’ve been following this project since Whisper (W04), through This Is The Life (W12) and Just to Survive (W16), and “Interlude” is a different kind of entry: around two minutes, fully instrumental, listed as Part VI on the forthcoming album Stand Still Like The Hummingbird (due December 9th).
Instrumentals dropped as singles can go either way. This one earns its place. The track sits somewhere between early Simple Minds and Bauhaus, synths and guitar building into a wave of gothic post-punk that feels structural rather than decorative. It reads less like a standalone track and more like the hinge point of a sequence, which, given that the duo appear to be releasing the album in order across the lunar cycle, is probably exactly what it is. A two-minute pivot that resets the room before whatever comes next.
I find myself more curious about the second half of this release series now than I was before.
