Anna von Hausswolff – Aging Young Women
Swedish composer Anna von Hausswolff releases “Aging Young Women”, featuring Ethel Cain, from her album “ICONOCLASTS” dropping October 31st via YEAR0001. Von Hausswolff reached out to Cain after discovering her through her sister, and the collaboration pairs their vocals over textural saxophone and church organ.
“‘Aging Young Women’ is about when the passing of time becomes a negative notion due to unfulfilled dreams and a feeling that a tainted situation is impossible to change to the contrary,” von Hausswolff explains.
Otis Sandsjö plays saxophone and clarinet while von Hausswolff handles church organ and vocals. Filip Leyman, her longtime collaborator and album producer, contributes synth, drums, and percussion. A full string section features Jenny Jonsson, Alexander Chojecki, Annie Svedund, and Charlotta Grahn-Wetter on violin, Märta Eriksson on viola, Lisa Reuter on cello, and Viktor Reuter on double bass.
Cain’s elegant vocals fit naturally next to von Hausswolff’s, especially when the churchy organ comes in. Following von Hausswolff’s 2020 album “All Thoughts Fly” on Southern Lord and 2022’s “Live at Montreux Jazz Festival”, “ICONOCLASTS” also features duets with Iggy Pop on “The Whole Woman” and collaborations with Abul Mogard and Maria von Hausswolff.
Von Hausswolff tours Europe and UK starting December, with North American dates in March 2026 including stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Washington DC. She’ll also perform at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
