Edinburgh’s Barry Can’t Swim returns with “The Person You’d Like To Be,” his first release of 2025 via Ninja Tune. This track marks a fresh direction after his breakthrough debut album “When Will We Land?” and serves as an opening salvo for a larger project dropping later this year.

Diverging from his previous sound, Barry incorporates post-punk influences and industrial textures, creating a somewhat claustrophobic beat that pays homage to the electronic music that shaped his early listening experiences.

This release follows an extraordinary 18-month period that has cemented Barry Can’t Swim’s reputation as one of electronic music’s most exciting voices. His debut album, now exceeding 100 million streams, earned him a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination—joining an elite group of solo electronic artists including Aphex Twin, Nia Archives, Burial, Jamie xx, Fred again.. and Jon Hopkins.
