Brijean – Euphoric Avenue

Brijean – Euphoric Avenue

Brijean, the innovative duo of Brijean Murphy and Doug Stuart, graces us with “Euphoric Avenue,” a Bossa nova and soul jazz-tinged lullaby that feels like a serene journey through a moonlit park. Released via Ghostly International, the track’s lush layers include soaring strings by Stephanie Yu, shuffling drums by Kosta Galanopoulos, atmospheric keys, and soulful flute melodies by Logan Hone. Murphy’s meditative vocals weave through this rich tapestry, inviting listeners to view the world with a sense of awe and wonder.

Murphy, a seasoned percussionist with roots tracing back to her father’s teachings on Vince Charles’ congas, and Stuart, a multifaceted jazz and pop session musician, bring a wealth of experience and emotional depth to their music. Their journey from the Bay Area to multiple cities has infused their work with a profound sense of loss, renewal, and artistic exploration.

Their upcoming album, “Macro,” set for release on July 12, 2024, promises to showcase the duo at their most dynamic and playful. It captures the complexities and harmonies of the human experience, creating a world of characters and moods that remind us no feeling is final. The album’s first single, “Working On It,” already hinted at their innovative blend of Larry Levan house vibes with playful, introspective lyrics.

“Euphoric Avenue” continues this exploration, presenting a track that is both introspective and expansive, a testament to Brijean’s ability to blend genres and emotions seamlessly. Murphy notes, “Being in this beautiful part of town nestled up against the Angeles National Forest played a big role in how comfortable we felt stretching out and trying to push our musical boundaries.”

With contributions from various talented musicians and a unique approach to songwriting and production, Brijean’s “Macro” is poised to be a standout release. As they navigate the ups and downs of life, their music invites us to join them in feeling it all deeply and authentically.
