A. Swayze and the Ghosts – Hot Sun

Three late nights, a makeshift studio and a random Airbnb in rural Tasmania: that’s where “Hot Sun” got made. All five members of A. Swayze and the Ghosts were in the room for it, writing and recording at once, and they produced it themselves.

The garage-punk band aim it at a planet that keeps getting hotter and at everyone, themselves included, carrying on like it isn’t. Wiry guitars do most of the work, and Andrew Swayze’s vocal sits on top of them with a sneer that never quite turns into a scowl. It sounds almost playful on the surface, which makes the subject land harder when it catches up with you.
