SOAK – decembers
Can you actually go home again? Bridie Monds-Watson spent a long time trying to prove Thomas Wolfe wrong on that one, before deciding the fight wasn’t worth living for. “In a way, I think decembers is about forgiveness,” they say, and the title track carries that idea as the first real look at SOAK’s fourth album, a record shaped by a stretch when an autoimmune disease kept them from singing at all. It moves from American roads to frosty Dublin nights and back home to Derry, and the song arrives with a visualiser by Cuan Roche, following June’s death valley fridge magnet (W26). The album is out December 4 on Rough Trade. Soft-spoken, unhurried, and very welcome.
