RIP Magic – Stadium Drive
Every RIP Magic single this year has pointed somewhere new, and “Stadium Drive” heads straight for the fairground. Where Screwdark (W19) piled up orchestra stabs and Light Over There (W30) drifted into dub haze, this one rides a loose, dreamy hip-hop bounce, with the vocals flipping between spoken lines and singsong hooks. Still no guitars: live drums and bass, synths and samples, all pushed toward the kind of carnival overload the band keep finding in American spectacle, a car chase, a parade and a stadium crowd crammed into one song.
It’s out now as the first look at their debut album 1,2,3, twelve tracks due October 30 on section1. Four of those tracks are already out, and there’s no guessing what the other eight sound like.
