Jaime Rosso – Speak

Jaime Rosso is back with “Speak”, the second cut from his upcoming EP Keep Stepping!, out September 11th on Domino Recording Co. It follows Walk (W25), the bright, groove-forward opener we covered a few weeks back. Where that one moved with an easy, optimistic stride, “Speak” digs in harder: percussive, bass-heavy, built to push you rather than carry you.

Rosso wrote it about the gap between thinking something and saying it out loud. “Something’s gotta give, something’s gotta go”, he sings, and it plays like someone talking himself into action rather than out of it. He’s called himself an introvert who sits with his thoughts instead of voicing them, and that tension shows up in the arrangement itself: the low end does a lot of the pushing, giving the track a sense of urgency the vocal doesn’t have to oversell.

The video continues the story from “Walk”, same characters, same world, both directed by Rosso himself. It’s a small but smart move, treating the EP like a continuous narrative rather than a string of singles with matching visuals bolted on.
