Jaime Rosso – Speak
Jaime Rosso follows up “Walk” with “Speak”, the second single from his forthcoming EP Keep Stepping!, out September 11th on Domino. Where “Walk” leaned into forward motion and daily ritual, this one is more direct: a percussive, bass-driven track that pushes you to stop sitting on your thoughts and say something.
Rosso is upfront about where the song comes from. “Being an introvert by nature, I have a tendency to sit with my thoughts rather than say them out loud”, he says. That self-awareness comes through in the writing. The repeated pull toward “something’s gotta give / something’s gotta go” isn’t abstract, it reads like someone giving themselves a talking-to, and that specificity is what makes it land.
Production-wise, it fits with what the EP is shaping up to be: rooted in soundsystem culture, groove-heavy without being rigid, with enough brightness to keep it from feeling heavy-handed. Rosso is based in Margate but the music keeps coming back to city energy, South London bass frequencies and the particular momentum of summer.
Two singles in, Keep Stepping! is building into something I’m genuinely curious to hear in full.
