hackedepicciotto – Einig

Berlin duo hackedepicciotto have shared “Einig”, the second single from their upcoming limited album Lichtung, out July 10 via Mute. The project is Alexander Hacke โ€” who departed Einstรผrzende Neubauten in April 2025 โ€” and Danielle De Picciotto, American-born musician, artist, filmmaker, and co-founder of the original Love Parade in 1989. When we covered Wiederbelebung (W14), the lead single, we noted the significance of the context: the duo had ended fourteen years of nomadic living to settle on the outskirts of Berlin, and Lichtung was written and recorded in their new home studio, composed entirely in German.

“Einig” means concordant or in agreement. The lyric is five short couplets in German โ€” a stubborn spark of conflict that transforms into something lighter, the idea being that real unity produces a bond stronger than whatever friction came before it. The closing image pairs “stronger bond” against “discordant dissonance” and the alliteration earns its place; it’s a small formal move that gives the ending a bit of weight. It’s a spare, considered piece, which fits the duo’s approach: they work across acoustic instruments including violin, hurdy-gurdy, and autoharp alongside bass guitar and electronics, building something that sits between post-industrial and contemporary classical without fully belonging to either. I find the restraint here more convincing than most music that tries to say something about reconciliation.

Lichtung is available for pre-order on vinyl (described as candy-coloured) via their Bandcamp page. The duo mark the release with a show on June 27 at Sonic Morgue/Silent Green in Berlin, with guest musicians Vincent Signorelli of Unsane, Dorit Chrysler, and Jakob Ilja of Element of Crime, plus Mark Reeder DJing.

Lichtung follows The Silver Threshold (2021), the duo’s first album for Mute.
