White Flowers – Heart Breaks

Preston duo White Flowers — Katie Drew and Joey Cobb — share “Heart Breaks”, the latest single from their upcoming album Dreams For Somebody Else, due 1 May via The state51 Conspiracy. The track is the third preview of the record, following “Thinking of You” and “Heaven”, and has an unusual origin: two halves written at different points across several years that only came together last summer.

The band describe their work as occupying “the realm” — a shared creative space where time moves fluidly and music stays in constant conversation with past and present selves. On Dreams For Somebody Else, they expand on the dark-hued dream pop of their debut, channelling the energy of dance music through repetitive structures and what they call “sad, euphoric sounds”. Al Doyle, known for his work with LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip, co-produced the album alongside the duo.

“Heart Breaks” draws its inspiration from Anne De Marcken’s 2024 novel It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over — a passage about hunger, vastness, and running through an empty world. The song doesn’t illustrate the quote so much as inhabit the same emotional register: the restlessness of it, the sense of interior space that outgrows the exterior. The way the track holds that feeling without resolving it is the part that stays with me.
