Reginald Omas Mamode IV – It’s Our World

British-Mauritian creative force Reginald Omas Mamode IV has unleashed “It’s Our World,” via Melting Pot Music, which serves as the opening from his upcoming album.

The track arrives with a refreshingly clear mission statement from Mamode himself: “Our persistence, elasticity, Love and our passion will prevail. We the people are more often than not, falsely led to believe that we are powerless. This is our world, let us get it back. Together.”

What makes “It’s Our World” particularly noteworthy is Mamode’s artistic evolution. After establishing himself through sample-based production, he’s experienced what he calls a “production rebirth,” abandoning the sampler to play live instruments throughout. The track showcases his multi-instrumental talents, featuring his performances on drums, drum machines, percussion, guitar, Fender Rhodes, and synths.

Mamode’s musical DNA is fascinatingly complex. Born and raised in Britain while maintaining strong ties to his father’s Mauritian heritage, his sound blends influences spanning continents and eras. The South London to Mascarene Islands connection runs deep—music permeates the Mamode family, with brothers Mo Kolours and Jeen Bassa also recording artists, and relatives who contributed to the ‘Electric Sega’ recordings in Mauritius during the 1970s.

This rich heritage translates into music from Golden Era Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Afro, Funk, Sega, and Maloya. His sonic palette draws inspiration from African rhythms, Caribbean grooves, South London beats, and American Blues traditions. While echoes of J Dilla and D’Angelo are present, so too are the influences of funk pioneers like Sly Stone, psychedelic soul master Shuggie Otis, and dub legend Lee Perry.

With four solo albums already released on Five Easy Pieces (plus collaborative projects with Twit One, Tenderlonious, and Flako), Mamode has been instrumental in shaping today’s UK beat and jazz scene. Gilles Peterson’s ongoing support since 2012 underscores his significance—when the tastemaker DJ has played your music consistently for over a decade, you’re doing something right.

“It’s Our World” marks the beginning of a new chapter for Mamode, with a full album expected later this year. If this lead single indicates the direction, we can expect a collection that balances musical sophistication with a message of collective empowerment—a timely and timeless combination.
