Julia & The Squeezettes – Cue Cards
Julia & The Squeezettes, a powerhouse supergroup featuring Julia Kugel (The Coathangers, Julia, Julia), Staz Lindes (The Paranoyds), Bonnie Bloomgarden (Death Valley Girls), and Rikki Styxx (The Two Tens), dive into indie rock nostalgia with their reinterpretation of “Cue Cards.” Originally penned by the Olympia trio Lync, the track is steeped in Pacific Northwest indie history—a scene marked by grit, passion, and a staunch refusal to bow to the mainstream.
The original “Cue Cards,” from Lync’s lone LP These Are Not Fall Colors (reissued by Suicide Squeeze in 2023), is a raw and emotive blast of melodic chaos. Julia & The Squeezettes take this rough-hewn gem and polish it into a sparkling piece of minimalist pop. Gone are the distorted crescendos; in their place, carefully chosen guitar phrases and a rhythm section that’s both subtle and driving.
Suicide Squeeze will release the 7” single—featuring Lync’s original alongside Julia & The Squeezettes’ reimagined take—on February 14, 2025, as part of a limited run of 500 vinyl copies. This release isn’t just a tribute; it’s a bridge connecting generations of indie rock, bound by creativity and a refusal to conform.
