Mogwai unveils “Fanzine Made of Flesh,” the latest single from their forthcoming album The Bad Fire, set for release on January 24 via Rock Action Records. Marking the band’s eleventh studio album, this record emerges from a period of personal challenges and serves as both a cathartic process and a creative triumph for the Scottish post-rock legends.

Written in Brooklyn during Stuart Braithwaite’s stay at Alex Kapranos’s house in 2023, the track fuses vocoder-laced vocals and shimmering cold wave-inspired synths. Its layered textures culminate in a guitar-driven chorus.
Originally featuring a straightforward vocal take, the song’s final version leaned into experimentation with vocoder effects, resulting in an otherworldly feel that enhances its emotional resonance.

The single arrives alongside a video directed by Agnes Haus, who interpreted the song as a “pseudo-film trailer” with vague horror elements, emotional entanglement, and nods to experimental ’90s cinema.
