Beirut – Caspian Tiger

Zach Condon’s Beirut returns with “Caspian Tiger”, a profound piece that’s part of a soundtrack for Swedish circus company Kompani Giraff’s production “A Study of Losses”.

The song draws inspiration from Judith Schalansky’s book exploring irretrievable losses, from extinct species to vanished cultural artifacts. Condon’s composition reflects on the Caspian tigers, once roaming from the Asian steppes to Tashkent, now existing only in memory.

Initially hesitant about working on a circus production due to past typecasting, Condon found unexpected joy in composing for Kompani Giraff’s contemporary approach. The music incorporates choir influences, creating a soundscape that serves the narrative of loss and preservation.
