Gretel – Far Out

Gretel – Far Out

Gretel, formerly known as Gretel Hänlyn, is back with her captivating new single, “Far Out.” This alt-pop track, co-produced by the innovative Mura Masa, marks her first release of 2024 and is a vivid glimpse into her unique world. Released under her own label, Breadcrumb Records, in collaboration with AWAL Recordings, “Far Out” embodies Gretel’s sarcastic and rebellious spirit.

Gretel describes the song as a reflection of her personality, written from an aloof and mischievous place. The track features unexpected elements, such as a persistent beeping sound, that add to its quirky charm. These unconventional choices come to life in the accompanying music video, directed by Maisy Banks and creatively produced by The Reids. The video pays homage to the iconic Bob Fosse dance scene in “Sweet Charity,” capturing Gretel’s vision with a surreal and chic aesthetic.

The video opens with Gretel engaging in a deadpan dance, a nod to Suzanne Charny’s character from the film. This creative choice highlights the song’s playful and irreverent tone, making “Far Out” a standout release.

Reflecting on the process, Gretel shared, “I had an idea a long time ago that I wanted to do a weird dance for a music video but was waiting for the right song. When Alex (Mura Masa) showed me the Bob Fosse scene, I was inspired to bring that energy into the video.”

“Far Out” is a bold statement of independence and creativity, setting the stage for Gretel’s exciting journey ahead.
