Ezra Collective – Ajala

Ezra Collective – Ajala

Ezra Collective, the trailblazers of modern jazz, releases “Ajala”, a vibrant track that melds Afrobeat and Highlife with jazz. Named after Ajala the Traveller, a Nigerian journalist known for his worldwide travels on a moped, this song encapsulates the spirit of adventure and cultural fusion. “Ajala” not only reflects the physical journey but also a metaphorical journey of musical exploration. According to Femi Koleoso, the band’s drummer, the track embodies the idea of restless movement, something that defines both the traveler and the dynamic beats of this single.

The release previews Ezra Collective’s much-anticipated third album, promising a rich tapestry of sounds that draw upon their deep jazz roots and broad musical influences. Alongside this single release, Ezra Collective announces an exciting tour, including a landmark performance at London’s OVO Arena Wembley, marking a historic moment as they become the first UK jazz act to headline this venue.

Composed of Femi Koleoso on drums, TJ Koleoso on bass, Joe-Armon Jones on keys, James Mollison on saxophone, and Ife Ogunjobi on trumpet, the group has consistently pushed the boundaries of jazz. This new release continues their trajectory, weaving narratives of cultural dialogues and musical innovation. The single “Ajala” is not just a piece of music but a celebration of unbridled creativity and the communal spirit of music that transcends borders.
