Boy Harsher – Faulty
Jae Matthews wrote “Faulty” about two years ago, sequestered against the cold Pacific north of Astoria, and it’s her personal favourite on “GET MEAN”. Dark electronics meet a new wave melody, melancholy and catchy at once, on a song about the aftermath of a breakup and whether two people are better off alone.
The video is the last in the album’s run of clips: shot on 35mm by Boy Harsher with Owen Smith Clark behind the camera, it wraps up a tribute to banned Calvin Klein ads, same wood-panelled room as before, this time with dancing. Matthews calls it “Alone + alone together.” “GET MEAN” is out now on Nude Club Records. Frankfurt’s Zoom on 17 November is already booked, and “Faulty” makes the wait feel long.
