Revival Season – Mop Stick
“Mop Stick” spends a chunk of its runtime saying the group doesn’t have time to shrink itself down for content, then rolls out behind a whole dance-challenge video built for exactly that. Revival Season either doesn’t see the contradiction or doesn’t care.
The song is the second single from the group’s forthcoming sophomore LP “This Machine..”, following a video directed by Jeremiah Rafferty with choreography from Kim Brown built around the title’s own dance move. The band’s called the whole rollout a family effort, the kind of press language that usually reads as filler, except the credits back it up here.
“Mop Stick” reads like a song built to be danced to before it’s a song built to be parsed, and there’s something almost defiant about how little it explains its own hook.
Revival Season is teasing more news on the album in the coming weeks. I don’t know what “This Machine..” sounds like yet, but if “Mop Stick” is any indication, they’re not slowing down to make it easy.
