King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Kill For The Steel

A heavily processed vocal loops through most of “Kill For The Steel”: “We don’t wish death upon you, we don’t wish any bad luck or any ill will, but we will kill for the steel.” It’s a strange line to build a track around, half threat and half mantra, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard let it sit there under pounding rhythms and heavy low end without explaining what it means.

The song is the third single from Alien Metal, following “Level 5” and the title track “Alien Metal” (W31), and by design it doesn’t stand alone. The end of the track flows directly into “Level 5” on the tracklist, the two songs sequenced as one continuous move rather than separate statements. Everything here runs through the modular Eurorack rig the band calls Nathan, the same setup that pushed them toward techno, hardcore, house and jungle across the record.

Alien Metal is out now on p(doom) records.
