Gilla Band cut straight to the point on “Placeholder”: a locked bassline and Dara Kiely’s voice in controlled space, then the floor collapses into skittering drums and techno before the two halves grind into coexistence, the band’s most direct collision of noise rock and electronic production without losing any strangeness. Kiely’s mining childhood nostalgia and intrusive thoughts here, the comfort distractions that bleed into adult life, and it lands harder because nothing resolves cleanly.
