Surusinghe – FRIED

Surusinghe is out on dh2 with “FRIED”, the lead single from her forthcoming EP Cutting Thread.

“FRIED” runs on low-end pressure and rugged digital electronics. There’s no softening at the edges here: it’s built for a room with a proper sound system, which tracks with how Surusinghe describes her formative years: “We were out every weekend and around music because that’s where our people were, that’s what we had to do”. The London roots are clearly in the DNA.

The wider EP, due this summer, features a collaboration with Jamaican MC Warrior Queen. I’ll be curious to hear how that pairing sits alongside the more stripped, functional pressure of “FRIED” — the two approaches could either clash or produce something worth paying attention to.

A focused club track from someone building momentum in the right spaces. I’m putting it here because it does exactly what it sets out to do without overselling itself.
