Man/Woman/Chainsaw – MadDog

London’s chaotic sextet Man/Woman/Chainsaw continues their sonic assault with “MadDog,” the second half of a double A-side release via So Young Records. This frantic, winding track arrives hot on the heels of April’s “Adam & Steve,” with both songs set to be packaged together on a limited edition 7″ vinyl – marking the band’s debut physical release, available May 23rd.

The group’s rapid creative evolution is evident in the song’s composition and production approach. According to band member Vera Leppänen, “MadDog” explores the disillusionment of “losing a friend and watching them become everything you thought they wouldn’t.” This emotional trajectory shaped the song’s distinctive structure, which Leppänen describes as having two distinct sections: “the pissed off bit and the sad/nostalgic bit.”

The band’s embrace of a more spontaneous recording process makes “MadDog” particularly interesting from a production standpoint. Working with producers Seth Evans (known for his work with Geordie Greep) and Margo Broom at the legendary RAK Studios, the six-piece completed the track “with a quick turnaround,” representing a departure from their previous methods. This accelerated approach lends the song a raw, immediate quality that captures the emotional volatility of its subject matter.

The single arrives during a significant moment for Man/Woman/Chainsaw, who recently celebrated their 100th live performance – an impressive milestone for a relatively young band. Their momentum has been building steadily since the release of their debut EP “Eazy Peazy” last November, which was recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne.

For vinyl enthusiasts and collectors, So Young Records is planning something special around the 7″ release. The label will host a secret show the night before the release to celebrate the occasion. Additionally, Rough Trade will offer an exclusive package pairing the 7″ with a special print, available only through their stores.

The double A-side release follows significant critical recognition for the band, including earning “Band To Watch” honors last fall on the strength of their debut EP. Their continued output suggests a group refining their distinctive sound while maintaining the raw energy that first garnered attention.
