Mek’Dr’Dr – Densdensdens

Mek’Dr’Dr – Densdensdens

Brussels-based duo Mek’Dr’Dr delivers a delightfully off-kilter experience with “Densdensdens,” a track from their upcoming debut EP ‘No Safer Place Than a Toilet Sea’ (releasing May 9th via EXAG’ Records). The pair—Mien Heyvaert (vocals, bass) and Sara De Wit (vocals, percussion)—have crafted a minimalist post-punk gem.

Born in 2022 in Werkplaats Walter’s creative cauldron, Mek’Dr’Dr’s sound is built on groovy basslines and unconventional percussion (think car brake discs and IKEA salad bowls). This resourceful approach creates tight, chaotic rhythms that complement perfectly their vocal delivery.

“Densdensdens” brilliantly captures the awkward tension of new connections. The lyrics navigate the uncomfortable space between attraction and irritation: “I am aching for undigested love / you are waiting for romance / I could fill you up with sludge and undefilements / or we could dance.” There’s something refreshingly honest about their exploration of disgust within intimacy—”Now I am disgusted by you / it’s the way you eat / you put it in your mouth and you smack so loud / and now i have to vomit”—followed by the cathartic release of the repeated chorus: “Dance, dance / we could dance about it / while we betrayed our hearts.”

What makes Mek’Dr’Dr particularly compelling is their embrace of imperfection and playful critique of societal norms. Drawing inspiration from unlikely sources—Flemish ribbon development, morning café culture—they’ve created music that invites listeners to find comfort in chaos, question expectations, and remember, as they put it, “Slipping is dancing too, my friend!”
