Everything Is Recorded – Never Felt Better (ft. Florence Welch & Sampha)
Everything Is Recorded, the collaborative project helmed by producer Richard Russell, unveils a transcendental new single “Never Felt Better,” uniting two British music icons – Sampha and Florence Welch. This anthemic offering serves as the final preview of Russell’s third album “Temporary,” arriving February 28, 2025, via XL Recordings.
“Temporary” marks a significant evolution in Russell’s musical approach. During his previous work prioritized rhythm over melody and lyrics, this collection flips that formula, allowing melodic elements to take centre stage. Created over four years (2020-2024) primarily at Russell’s West London Copper House studio, with additional sessions spanning from Tottenham to Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the album follows Russell’s Mercury Prize-nominated 2018 debut.
The album explores themes of grief and loss through “luminous, serene compositions,” resulting in what’s described as “perhaps one of the gentlest albums ever written about death.” This emotional depth comes wrapped in an experimental soundscape that poses an intriguing question: “what if folk music had ‘gone digital’ in the ’80s, just as reggae had?”
Russell has assembled an impressive roster of collaborators for “Temporary,” including Bill Callahan, Noah Cyrus, Maddy Prior, Berwyn, Alabaster Deplume, Jah Wobble, Yazz Ahmed, Laura Groves, Kamasi Washington, Rickey Washington, Roses Gabor, Jack Peňate, Samantha Morton, Clari Freeman-Taylor, and Nourished By Time.
