Destroyer – Bologna

With “Bologna,” Destroyer takes an artistic leap that both surprises and deepens their creative trajectory. The first single from their upcoming album, Dan’s Boogie—set to release on March 28, 2025, via Merge Records—features a haunting collaboration with Simone Schmidt of Fiver. Known for their intricate storytelling and lush soundscapes, Destroyer, fronted by Dan Bejar, delivers a narrative-rich and emotionally resonant track that captures the weight of loss and the inevitability of change.

Musically, “Bologna” introduces a darker, more atmospheric side to Destroyer’s repertoire. Bejar, typically the centerpiece of the band’s vocals, steps back, allowing Schmidt’s commanding voice to take the lead.

The accompanying music video, directed by David Galloway, enhances the song’s unsettling mood. Rendered in a retro VHS aesthetic with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it juxtaposes chaotic, restless visuals with moments of stillness, reflecting the tension between loss and hope. Galloway’s work subtly critiques modern technology, highlighting how rapid change can displace and redefine our sense of self.
