Delivery – The New Alphabet
Australian band Delivery reveals “The New Alphabet”, a sharp reflection on ego and self-awareness from their upcoming album Force Majeure. The track unfolds through interweaving guitar lines and calculated chaos, deliberately structured to mirror its thematic exploration of misplaced confidence.
James, the band’s songwriter, describes the piece as an unintentional spiritual companion to their earlier work “The Complex”. Both songs occupy the sixth position on their respective albums, sharing not just numerical placement but also a fascination with characters whose self-perception diverges markedly from reality.
The composition evolved like a sonic puzzle, finding its coherence in seemingly unnecessary elements – a key change and noise-guitar solo that paradoxically brought clarity to the whole. This approach reflects Delivery’s broader artistic ethos: finding meaning in the deliberately misaligned.
The accompanying video captures the band in alien costumes exploring earthly pleasures across Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and the UK – a visual metaphor that perfectly complements the song’s examination of outsider perspectives.
Force Majeure arrives via Heavenly Recordings on January 17, 2025, followed by the band’s first North American tour including appearances at SXSW and New Colossus in March.
