Sleaford Mods – The Good Life Ft. Gwendoline Christie & Big Special

Sleaford Mods announce their eighth album “The Demise Of Planet X” with lead single “The Good Life”, featuring Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie and Birmingham duo Big Special. The album drops January 16, 2026 via Rough Trade Records.

Jason Williamson confronts his habit of publicly criticising other artists, turning his inner conflict into a track that wrestles with the tension between chaos and peace. Andrew Fearn builds beats while Williamson’s rapid-fire vocals chart his past feuds with IDLES, Noel Gallagher, and Alex Turner. Christie makes her musical debut here, screaming desperate lines that represent Williamson’s self-destructive voice. Big Special provides the counterpoint with softer vocals about finding contentment.

Williamson spent five or six years in therapy unpacking why he feels compelled to slag off other bands. “There’s nothing wrong with critique, but I took it to an extreme,” he admits. The song captures that realization without letting him off the hook. Ben Wheatley directed the video, his second collaboration with the band after “Mork n Mindy”.

“The Demise Of Planet X” marks the duo’s most ambitious work yet. Recorded at Abbey Road, JT Soar in Nottingham, and Invada Studios in Bristol with Geoff Barrow’s crew, the album features Sue Tompkins from Life Without Buildings, Aldous Harding, Nottingham soul singer Liam Bailey, and grime MC Snowy. Fearn stepped back from engineering to focus on producing, which led to the creation of ska-influenced beats and Motown-inspired backing vocals.

Williamson describes the album as an inventory of Trumpism and cultural darkness. “When we wrote the last album, it was about stagnation. Three years later, that corpse has burst open from war, genocide and the ongoing psychological aftermath of Covid.”
