oui merci – Plus près
Montreal quintet oui merci drops “Plus près” as the first taste of their second album, due early 2026 via Duprince. François Lafontaine, who worked with Karkwa, produced the record. Singer and guitarist Ludovic Leblond wrote the song after listening to Arielle Soucy’s album “Il n’y a rien que je ne suis pas,” wanting to work with chord progressions and melodies that nod to classical music.
The track combines acoustic and electric guitars with an indie rock foundation. Five longtime friends who get together between barbecues and card games, oui merci built their sound by combining each member’s strengths and weaknesses.
“Plus près” digs into intimacy and introspection. The repeated line “viens plus près de toi / viens plus près de moi” explores mental distance and self-dialogue rather than physical separation. Leblond sings about wanting to break mirrors and tear down self-consciousness to find genuine connection. It’s their first release with Duprince.
