Anja Huwe & Xmal Deutschland – PolarForest
Anja Huwe and Xmal Deutschland have decided time is merely a suggestion with PolarForest—a track that stitches together 1987’s Polarlicht and 2024’s Living In The Forest like some gothic Frankenstein experiment. The result? A hypnotic collision of icy synth shimmer and earthy, simmering rage, proving Huwe’s voice still carries the same eerie magnetism whether she’s whispering about the northern lights or growling through the undergrowth.
The song was born from a New York street moment—a stranger’s boombox accidentally mashed the two tracks together, and Huwe, ever the alchemist, decided to make it official. Back in Berlin, she reworked Polarlicht’s glacial guitars and layered in the darker, denser tones of Living In The Forest, creating something that feels both spectral and stubbornly alive. It’s post-punk archaeology, except the artifact is still breathing.
