Fine – I Could

After the dust settled from her debut album Rocky Top Ballads, Copenhagen’s Fine reappears with “I Could,” a track that drifts in like a half-remembered dream you’re not sure that you wanted to wake from. Built on a slinky bassline from Lola Hammerich, a few tremolo-soaked guitar lines, and Fine’s airy delivery, the song doesn’t rush to impress — it prefers to lurk somewhere between a sigh and a shrug.

The production keeps things minimal, but that’s the trick: the spaces say almost as much as the words. Fine lets the arrangement smolder quietly, threading subtle tension through soft-focus rhythms. You can almost hear the smoke rising from the corners of the room.

Lyrically, “I Could” plays with longing without ever fully committing to it — a love song for people who aren’t quite sure whether they’re falling or just leaning against a memory. Everything feels slightly detached, like Fine’s inviting you into a private moment she might still take back.

It’s a song that knows better than to shout for your attention. Instead, it lingers — a little slippery, a little bittersweet — leaving you unsure whether you missed something or imagined it altogether.
