Loren Kramar – hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have- but I have it
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Loren Kramar has unveiled a stunning rendition of Lana Del Rey’s “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it,” the first single from his forthcoming EP “Living Legend” – a collection of Del Rey covers set for release on March 28th via Secretly Canadian.
Kramar’s interpretation remains faithful to the original’s emotional weight while adding his distinct theatrical flair. Performing the song precisely as Del Rey wrote it, without changing pronouns, becomes a powerful statement of self-acceptance. “I was a girly boy,” Kramar explains. “Called prissy-pansy-fairy-fruity. Those were intended as insults, something to do with femininity and a failure of manhood. I sing Lana’s words as she wrote them… It’s a gesture that feels elegant and triumphant that says: yes, I’m a faggot. What was used to humiliate me has become self-possession.”
This transformative approach to Del Rey’s introspective ballad from her acclaimed “Norman Fucking Rockwell!” album showcases Kramar’s tremendous vocal range and emotional depth. Most tracks on the EP were recorded in single takes, capturing the raw immediacy of his performance.
For “Living Legend,” Kramar assembled an impressive roster of collaborators, including Daniel Aged (known for work with Frank Ocean and FKA twigs), who handled production duties. Other contributors include Dylan Day, Sam Gendel (Vampire Weekend collaborator), Benny Bock (The Weeknd), Casey MQ, Stewart Cole, and Zsela. The EP’s cover features model DeSe Escobar.
This release follows Kramar’s 2024 debut album “Glovemaker” and comes during a pivotal moment in his career. Two of his original songs will be featured in the upcoming queer romance film “On Swift Horses” starring Jacob Elordi, with one reportedly soundtracking a significant intimate scene between Elordi and co-star Diego Calva. Kramar is also scheduled to support Father John Misty (a Del Rey collaborator himself) on an upcoming UK tour.
