Joy Crookes – Mathematics ft. Kano
Joy Crookes returns with “Mathematics” – a track that proves sometimes love isn’t as complicated as it seem. Crookes has spent three years carefully crafting her return after the success of her 2021 debut “Skin” (which did everything from charting at #5 in the UK to earning Mercury Prize nominations).
The track, born from a relationship where love got lost in translation (literally – he was French), transforms frustration about unrequited feelings into what Crookes calls “medicine for lots of different fuckeries that life hands us.” Kano’s contribution came as a surprise gift – he was supposed to feature on another song but got inspired by this one instead, proving that sometimes the best collaborations happen when you’re not looking.
Following her viral hit “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and recent collaboration with Vince Staples, Crookes continues to blend her ’60s soul influences with contemporary sounds, creating something that sits comfortably between vintage and vanguard.
