Snapped Ankles – Raoul

Snapped Ankles return with “Raoul,” the lead single from Hard Times Furious Dancing (out March 28 via The Leaf Label). Drawing inspiration from Alice Walker’s poetry, the track melds disco-punk rhythms with geopolitical commentary, anchored by the sardonic refrain “everybody look the other way.”

Raoul is a feverish disco-punk outburst fuelled by buzzing synths, screeching vocals, and an unsettling undercurrent of tension. Described as “a conversation about geopolitics between unreliable narrators,” the track is as disorienting as it is infectious. It practically dares you not to dance while unpacking its comments. And that refrain—“everybody look the other way”—feels like a sly jab at societal apathy.

The accompanying video matches the song’s eccentricity. Shot on grainy VHS-style footage, it’s a surreal fever dream of masked characters—a bellboy, a suited crow, and a hare-masked figure—set against urban and seaside backdrops.
