Damon Locks – Click
Chicago’s musical visionary Damon Locks brings forth “List of Demands”, a groundbreaking album arriving January 31 via International Anthem. The project represents his first complete venture into spoken and text-based composition, masterfully blending cultural fragments into cohesive narratives.
The lead single “Click” showcases Locks’s distinctive approach to rhythm and storytelling. Drawing from his extensive background spanning experimental jazz, hip-hop sampling, and punk sensibilities, Locks crafts a sonic landscape that reflects decades of cultural immersion and artistic evolution.
This album emerged from a collaboration with Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Photography and Experimental Sound Studio, featuring contributions from an exceptional ensemble including Ben LaMar Gay on cornet, Macie Stewart on violin, poet Krista Franklin, and DJ Major Taylor handling turntables and drums.
Locks’s approach to sampling reveals his deep appreciation for preserving and reimagining Black voices from the past. He orchestrates these historical elements with a rhythmic precision that creates engaging, body-moving music while maintaining the complexity of the underlying concepts.
