La Sécurité – Detour
Montreal’s La Sécurité marks a new chapter with “Detour”, their first release since signing to Bella Union in the UK (while maintaining ties with Mothland in North America). The track follows their acclaimed 2023 album “Stay Safe!”.
The signing to Bella Union came through a serendipitous chain of events, with label founder Simon Raymonde’s wife Abbey discovering the band at a New York City show. After catching their performance at The Great Escape in May, Raymonde was convinced: “They were everything she described and more. Way more. Appeals to me on so many levels, musically and culturally, touching on my own post-punk history.”
“Detour” was recorded with producer Renny Wilson, a long-time collaborator of vocalist Éliane Viens-Synnott. “It was refreshing to watch him work on instincts, trying to keep takes and tones as natural as possible,” she explains. “Because we know each other so well, it seems to me that he already knew what our music should sound like.” The song playfully critiques pop psychology while advocating for free will and avoiding conventional paths.
