Nubya Garcia – The Seer

Nubya Garcia – The Seer

Nubya Garcia, the Mercury-nominated saxophonist, is set to release her new album Odyssey on September 20th via Concord Jazz. The lead single, “The Seer,” is a testament to Garcia’s efforts to find clarity and direction. With its propulsive double-time drums, upper-register piano chords, and echoed saxophone wails, the track captures the essence of wishing for a glimpse into the future.

Odyssey is a bold, genre-spanning project that traverses jazz, classical, R&B, and dub. Produced by Garcia and returning collaborator Kwes, the album features contributions from notable Black female musicians, including Esperanza Spalding, Richie Seivwright, and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Garcia describes the album as an exploration of one’s path, shedding external noise and embracing life’s ever-changing journey.

Garcia’s orchestration of strings for the first time adds a new dimension to her sound, creating a widescreen soundscape that is both ambitious and intimate. Following her celebrated 2020 debut, Source, Odyssey promises to be a significant step forward in Garcia’s artistic journey.
