Liz Lawrence – No One
Liz Lawrence makes a compelling return with her new single “No One,” a candid ode to embracing one’s inner loser and rejecting the relentless hustle of modern life. This track serves as a prelude to her forthcoming album “Peanuts,” set to drop on June 7 via Chrysalis Records. Just in time for her double-header at the Great Escape Festival on May 17, “No One” offers a raw reflection on societal pressures and the disintegration of communal spaces.
In her own words, Lawrence describes “No One” as a tribute to failure and a plea to let go of capitalist-driven growth that perpetuates sadness. The track is steeped in themes of lost public spaces, fractured communities, and the yearning to reconnect with nature and each other. “Peanuts,” described as an album of protest songs, captures England’s societal malaise on the brink of a general election. Lawrence highlights the critical need for physical and community spaces, emphasizing the urgency to resist their erosion.
Lawrence’s recent endeavors include the release of the single “Strut” and launching the “Big British Pub Crawl,” encouraging fans to nominate favorite pubs to spotlight the importance of local gathering spots. The album, produced by Ali Chant, known for his work with Perfume Genius and Yard Act, was recorded in just two weeks in Bristol. Lawrence aimed for a sound that blends influences like Cate Le Bon and Primal Scream, resulting in a unique and invigorating sonic experience.
“No One” stands as a powerful testament to Lawrence’s artistry and her dedication to addressing critical social issues through her music.
