SSAANN – Echo
Milwaukee dreampop quartet SSAANN are back with “Echo”, the latest preview of their upcoming album Higher, due March 27 on Broken Palace — the label also home to Stray Fossa and Siiieee____. We’ve been following this band since “Wade” landed in Week 46 last year, and covered “Above It” again in Week 07. The lineup is Melissa Simes (vocals, synth), Tommy Behan (drums, production), and Jake Schneider (guitar), with Jacob “Beanboi” Henbest mixing and Justin Perkins mastering.
Simes describes “Echo” as navigating “the seasons of the heart — the beauty of moving on the moment you realize you’ve outgrown yourself”. The production stays in the band’s established range: layered synths, steady rhythm, Simes’ vocals carrying most of the emotional weight. What I notice is how the song handles that moment of clarity — not with a build or a release, but by staying in the haze and letting the lyrics do the lifting. Lines like “What have you outgrew? / Love that’s past due” land quietly and don’t overstay.
Three singles in, Higher is shaping up to be a record worth the pre-order.
